The past participle is the adjective form of a verb. It is similar to the ~ed form of a verb in English when used to desribe nouns.
Below is an example with the verb voler (to steal):
El livre volé
The stolen book
Also, it is particularly important because it is used in the passé composé (compound past) tense. This is the most common spoken way to describe past events.
J'ai mangé.
I have eaten or I ate.
It is also used when speaking with the passive voice.
